Jamie has done it again. She has gotten me lost in a story that couldn't have been any better. Erin is a bullied girl, Weston is the jock, popular. I've waited for a story like this. Call it a twist of fate. Erin is bullied constantly by 2 other Erin's in her small hometown. One day she decides to stand up for herself, somehow giving Weston the courage to stand up to his friends when he's had enough of their bullying of an innocent girl who was given a crappy hand of cards at birth. A tragic accident reveals some "mistake" that throws her whole world into a tailspin and she doesn't know which way is up. I admire this girl, even though she's fictional. And bravo to Jamie for the very well written story that has captivated me.

Happenstance is a novella about three Erins in a small town in OK. Erin Easter is our narrator, who long ago was close friends with the other two Erins (Alder and Sonny). However, once junior high and high school began, Erin Easter was a social pariah and the other two Erins delighted in making her life a living hell.

This is a quick read and immediately draws the reader into Erin Easter's story. She's had a miserable life, living with a mother who cares more for anything but Erin, and Erin has had to work hard for everything she has. The other two Erins are spoiled rotten and lead their minions in tormenting Erin Easter. If they get Erin Easter to cry it makes their day even better. The dialogue of these bullies rings true as I recalled my own junior high bullying.

The plot twist was something I didn't see coming and made the entire story that much more intriguing. What will Erin Easter do now? What about all the other seniors in her school? Does this change things for the better or worse? I can't wait to find out what happens next. Does Erin make it to OSU? Does Gina care at all? What made Gina the way she is?

I'll be sitting on pins and needles awaiting the next volume in this series!
Jamie McGuire has done it again!! A beautifully written novella that takes you on a journey through the eyes of Erin Easter. There were moments I smiled and moments I cried through Easter's journey...one filled with neglect,hope,hatred,sadness and love. Weston Gates inspires with his protectiveness and love for Easter. Ahh yes, the elusive five stars. It's a rare thing for this reader to attach to a review. I'm not hard to please, it's just that not every book is a homerun. It's just the way it is. Was Happenstance a homerun? You bet it was!!

Happenstance is a novella, the first in a soon-to-be series of three. For those not familiar with the term novella, it's longer than a short story, but shorter than a novel. The great thing about a novella, especially one as good as this one, is you can typically devour it in one sitting. And believe me, you'll want to with Happenstance!

So what's it about? Erin Easter is one of three Erins in her senior class. They even all have the same birthday. That's where the similarities end, though. Whereas Erin Alderman and Erin Masterson come from privileged families, Erin Easter comes from no money, and a mom who doesn't seem to care about her. The two privileged Erins are best friends, and seem to make it their mission in life to make Easter's life a living hell. Then there's Weston Gates school heartthrob, who happens to be Erin Alderman's boyfriend. Easter has admired him from afar for years. She knows she could never have someone like him, even though he seems to be one of the only privileged kids at school who doesn't make fun of her. One day everything changes. Good things start to happen for Erin Easter. Then tragedy strikes their small town. Shocking truths come to light, and life is forever changed for a few.

This book starts out like your typical YA high school romance (and it's very addictive from the start), but Jamie manages to throw in some twists and turns you probably won't see coming, thus separating this book from the droves of YA romances out there that are all the same. Jamie McGuire is at the top of her game with this one, once again proving she's the Queen Bee of romance writing. This book hooked me from page 1, kept me hooked all the way thru, and had me at a loss for words when I was finished. I recommended it to all my friends immediately, and I recommend YOU read it, too! For me, Happenstance was love at first glance!
Jamie McGuire can sure write a love story... this novella may have been short but it was sweet and to the point, I loved every word written, She allowed me to connect to the main characters and I love that, they were real and attainable, honestly not made up, it was sort of like reading someone's journal. And now I want more of the story!!!

Happenstance totally left me blown away. Once I started reading it, I couldn't get the pages to turn quick enough. When I started reading it, I was unsure of what to expect, even after reading the synopsis. Honestly, I never saw a lot of what happened in the book coming.

Erin (Easter) and Weston are absolutely amazing. I loved them together. Though at first, I must admit I was worried what Weston’s intentions with Erin were. My biggest fear was that he was just going to be cruel to her but I knew Jamie would never let that happen. She would never let me down as a reader like that, and she didn’t.

I don’t want to ruin the plot for anyone, and I don’t like to re-state the synopsis of the book in my reviews. What I can tell you is that you NEED to read this. You will not be disappointed because a.) Jamie McGuire is amazing, b.) this book was so well written and the plot was great, and c.) Jamie McGuire is one of the most talented writers out there.
